Following his graduation from University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physical & Health Education (Honours), Ron taught physical and health education at Newtonbrook Secondary School in North York for 31 years. During that time, he coached over 25 championship athletic teams and organized and supervised over 30 athletic competitions. Ron was a member of the Canadian Amateur Wresting Association’s bid committee that succeeded in winning the right to host the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Toronto. He was also involved in bid presentations at the Olympics in Seoul and Barcelona, and at the World Championships in France and Japan. In 1993, Ron co-chaired the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships at the University of Toronto, which hosted over 1,000 delegates from more than 60 countries. He also co-authored three levels of coaching manuals for the Canadian National Coaching Certification Committee and presented them to the Wrestling Federation in New Zealand as a representative of the Canadian government.
